On May 14, 1999, Afternoon Novels released a novel about Miyuki and Natsumi. Titled as "Private File M&N", it was written by the animation series story writer Michiko Yokote, under the supervision of Kosuke Fujishima. There were also a few art drawings inside the book that is related to the story, all of them illustrated by the character designer Atsuko Nakajima.

The story is told through Natsumi and Miyuki’s points of views, alternating between each character with every chapter. There are 13 chapters devoted to each character, with an extra one in the end where Nakajima gives his own short narration, making a total of 27 chapters, all of which are divided into three parts.

The end of the book contains a "Tribute to You’re Under Arrest" section. There were a couple of doujinshis and several artworks, including Range Murata’s beautiful rendition of Miyuki and Natsumi wearing old-fashioned police uniforms and riding/leaning against an old-modeled bike.

The story began with Miyuki being unable to wake Natsumi up in the morning again, that she went off to work, leaving her partner behind. Natsumi, of course, ended up late at the office once more. Unfortunately, both of them had quite short tempers that morning, and they ended up in a disagreement. What will happen to Bokuto’s best partnership…?
